As a specialist plastic surgeon, Dr Ben Moodie is deeply passionate about his craft and is dedicated to offering modern, patient-centred treatment for both functional and aesthetic concerns.

Dr Moodie knew that he wanted to become a surgeon from the onset of his medical school training at the University of Pretoria, finding the opportunity to repair the human body extraordinary.

He obtained his medical degree in 2009 and went on to complete three years of General Surgery specialist training between 2014 and 2016 before accepting a post in Plastic Surgery. From 2017 to 2021, Dr Moodie perused Plastic Surgery specialist training, which he completed at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU).

In 2021, he obtained his master's degree in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at SMU and became a Fellow of the College of Plastic Surgery of South Africa (FC Plast Surg (SA)) that same year.

 

Dr Moodie spent considerable time in top international units to learn modern reconstructive techniques and Supermicrosurgery. These units include: Prof JP Hong in South Korea, Profs Isao Koshima and Takumi Yamamoto in Japan, Profs Jaume Masia and Gemma Pons in Spain. Locally he joined the dept of Plastic Surgery and ENT at Groote Schuur under Profs Johan Fagan, Ottie van Zyl and Conrad Pienaar to expand his knowledge and experience in Head and Neck reconstruction and Microsurgery.

Dr Moodie considers plastic and reconstructive surgery his life’s calling, revelling in the task of solving complex surgical problems. With an impeccable eye for detail, he works to create harmony, symmetry and beauty to bring hope where it was previously lost.

Dr Moodie is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Microsurgery Forum (IMW), the Reconstructive Microsurgery European School (RMES) and the Society of Rhinoplasty Surgeons of South Africa (SORSSA).
