BODY PLASTIC SURGERY

Body plastic surgery is the process of restoring or altering the human body. Body contouring, tummy tuck, liposuction and limb contouring are some of the procedures used to achieve harmony and symmetry. The goal of body cosmetic surgery is to improve the appearance of the body.

TYPES OF BODY PLASTIC SURGERIES

1Body Contouring
Body contouring includes a range of surgical procedures to shape different body areas to improve the physique after dramatic weight loss. Skin and underlying tissues often lack the elasticity to conform to the new slim body size. Surgical contouring includes removing excess skin and fat as well as supporting the deeper tissues to achieve better-proportioned body shape and contour. These procedures are usually combined to address several areas at a time.
2Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that enhances the shape and appearance of the abdomen. It achieves this by removing excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and by restoring the separated or weakened abdominal wall muscles. This creates a smoother and firmer profile that is more pleasing. Abdominoplasty can be tailored to match each patient's specific needs and goals and may be combined with liposuction to achieve the desired result.
3Liposuction
With liposuction, fat is surgically removed using a specialised suction system to remove fatty deposits from body areas of concern. Common areas include the belly, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, chest and neck. Liposuction is usually used to remove fat over a large area to improve the shape and contour of that specific area. Liposuction can also be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as facelifts, breast reductions and tummy tucks. It should be remembered that liposuction is, however, not a treatment for obesity and long-lasting results require proper diet and exercise to maintain your physique.
4Limb Contouring
In eligible patients, the upper arms, thighs, knees and lower legs can be reshaped and returned to a more youthful shape. Liposuction contouring removes unsightly, stubborn excess fat from areas of concern with little scarring to improve the shape and size of the targetted limb. Liposuction alone is ideal in case of minimal to mild skin excess. The overlying skin contracts after the fat is removed, which further assists with improving contour. Surgical limb contouring removes excess skin in such a way that allows tightening and shaping of the affected limb. Surgical contouring can be combined with liposuction in selected patients to restore an attractive shape to the limb. Surgical contouring requires a significant scar length to remove the necessary skin excess, which is placed along the inner side of the arm or leg to conceal it as much as possible. With adequate scar management, these scars usually heal satisfactorily.

FAQ

1How long does it take to recover?
Recovery depends on your surgery. Wounds are usually healed within two weeks, but full recovery to allow for return to work or exercise will take some extra time. After liposuction, most patients return to work after 7-14 days, depending on the size of the area treated. Return to work after surgical contouring usually takes 2-3 weeks and 3-4 weeks after tummy tuck. We generally allow patients to gradually resume with exercise after 6-8 weeks.
2Is body plastic surgery painful?
While there may be some discomfort after plastic surgery, it should be relatively bearable, and any pain should fade fast during the recovery phase.
3How do I know I’m a candidate for surgery?
You will need to book an appointment to see Dr Moodie. He will assess your medical history, review several lifestyle factors and perform a physical exam to assess your eligibility for surgery.
